The Whelk Processing Line is comprised of the following units:
The raw material is first size-graded into two or three grades to improve crushing performance, and maximize yield by ensuring even cooking if required. For a cooked final product, the material is immersed in boiling water for the required time and rapidly cooled in a chilled water tank. The elevating conveyor feeds the shells into an adjustable double-drum crusher which is fitted with overload protection. The crusher discharges directly into a rotating drum meat/shell separator. After a brief visual inspection, the meats are directed to the washing machine which removes the viscera and soft tissues. The clean meats are then ready for final size grading, freezing and packaging.
Our standard line can process up to 2 tonnes/hour of raw whelk. Larger lines can be supplied to meet higher production volume requirements.
